“As an artist, I am fascinated with reflections. I love painting still water with the reflecting sky while I also find portraits with mirrors symbolic. The intent of this painting was to create something fascinating, yet simple, with different items projected in daylight. The idea to place things on a mirror was extremely tempting and it proved to look intriguing with the window to outside practically reflected right on a table, underneath the copper and brass teapot, decorative plate, vases, and sprinkles of anise.”

Everything I have here is an ingredient or an utensil used to make a kombucha. Well, maybe books are not that essential and so are the big wooden spoons, but they look good. Well I also did not show a scoby - a bacterial yeast culture which is the main ingredient. One could argue scoby was in one of the glass bottles before we used it to make our own homebrew. That's what my wife does . We have full shelves of our own kombucha in bottles with all different tastes and flavors. Great stuff, especially in the hot Summer.

My beloved wife is a big ambassador on everything about traditional Chinese tea and she quite amplified my interest in the drink too. We like to have cozy tea ceremonies together afternoon and that is exactly what I painted here.

A hot hearth warms the house during the long Winter nights. One can lose themselves observing its licking wild flames.

Axe. Furnace. Logs. All of this is here to support a hot temperature in banya, which is a word for Russian Sauna. I was working on it right there, and later would go to enjoy banya myself.
In my opinion, this still life is a very intimate, and yet highly masculine subject.

A Rock’n’Roll still life with belt buckles, two handled axe, and a Motorhead shirt. A fun, unusual subject I enjoyed rocking out in my studio.
